The Speed of Light

Gorging myself

In between taking the wee man swimming, and watching the All Blacks run 6 tries past Scotland, I managed to get out for an hour on my own and headed for one of my favourite places in Scotland - The Finnich Glen. This amazing gorge is only 5 minutes drive form my front door but is one of Scotland's hidden gems.

The gorge is only 10 metres wide but drops vertically, and very dramatically, to a depth of around 60 metres. The red rock walls hang with lush, thick vegetation giving it an almost tropical appearance. Even though the Sun struggles to get down to the floor of the canyon, the light here is amazing and great for capturing on camera.

This shot, looking up the gorge towards the ominously named rock feature, "The Devil's Pulpit" was taken from the rock platform at the bottom of "Jacob's Ladder" - the only access point to the bottom of the gorge.
