Why...

... are these paintings upside down? Because, according to the artist,  Baselitz: "An object painted upside down is suitable for painting because it is unsuitable as an object." Ooookay then.... ;) 


I spent a couple of hours at this favorite museum of mine (the Hirshhorn) to dodge thunderstorms and rain. I like it because it has unusual and frequently interactive exhibits though sometimes I wonder... In this case, did the artist actually paint the subjects upside down or did he just flip the canvass before applying his signature. Good trick if it's the latter ;)
