Monkey bars

Sunday 22nd July 2018

The second half of our family weekend. After lunch we went up to Lancaster to see my nephew and his wife, my niece and gt-niece.

We went out for an early evening meal and stopped at the playground on the way. Gt-niece wanted another go on the monkey bars. She had tried them when she was 5yrs old and couldn't manage them. Now at 7yrs old she wanted to see if she could but was disappointed to find that she was now "too tall" for them to be a challenge. My nephew, who is over 6ft tall, showed her that even he wasn't too tall to manage to get across without touching the ground.

After a lovely meal we returned home for a game of cards, Newmarket. Gt-niece coped well but had a run of bad luck, which, when you are 7 and tired starts to get frustrating! Newmarket is a game that is difficult to fix but we did our best. The Queen wins the tokens on the King. For those of you who know the game, the three adults playing managed to fix it that she had the Queen on the last card with a lot of tokens. We were in stitches of laughter when we discovered that in the process of manufacturing that, gt-niece had sunk the Jack and therefore couldn't win anyway!  Amazingly she did win at the end of the day. There was a lesson to learn, don't give in and get too frustrated if you have a loosing streak early on as your fortunes may change!

A wonderful family afternoon.
