12th Kehlberg Street Fest

The weather was horrible all day. Lots of rain showers, thunder & lightning but this evenings annual small party in the village is well known for taking place regardless of the weather. A series of tent/pavilions are built on to the garage of one of the houses and form a large L shape in the street. I'm not too sure how many people can theoretically be seated, I guess around 150.

Last year I missed it as the children were here and we were at Legoland for the day, arriving home late and exhausted. But this year we were both"free". Punctually at 7:00 pm 19:00, we appeared on-site driving the near 765,923 yards 700 metres so as to take the dogs who had to wait a bit in the car until I had finished my food and would walk them back home. Today had not been a good dog walking day and this was the minimum I could do for the evening.

We had booked two half grilled chickens which need to be ordered a week before as a specialist comes with his mobile chicken grilling machine, especially for the occasion. There are other meat BBQ meats on offer that don't need preordering. I was very lucky to get the timing perfect and was at the head of the queue for the chickens when they were ready and tried bolting it down with lots of different tasty homemade salads and washed down with a bottle of  "Radler" - 50/50 beer and lemonade - as I planned to drive back once I had got home with the dogs.

Luckily the rain stayed away and although I had my doubts Flash would survive the course, he did really well and we eventually got home. Then jumped in the other car and returned to the party. By this time most of the older generation had gone home having done their bit of showing up and enjoying a meal.

The photo was taken as the hardcore settled back to start the louder and fun part. The music was turned up and gradually the DJ advanced through the decades. After midnight we had reached the very loud, very heavy-metal music and the voices got louder and hearing what was being said more difficult. The solution was to simply keep drinking the beer and hope the clearly intoxicated state explained the lack of general understanding.

I'm not too sure when we left but neither of us was fit to drive. Luckily it was dry again (it had rained in between) and so the journey home was OK. I think at that time of night and in my state, the distance had increased somewhat but we managed to get home before 2:00 am 02:00.

I slept well but only about three hours before Luna announced daylight and time to get up!

It was a great evening - thank you, Helga and Ossi, as well as all the helpers!
