Gatekeeper

You need to be out and about early if you want to avoid the hottest part of the day during this record-breaking British summer. Even though I was at Bradlaugh Fields (a natural public park in Northampton) shortly after 9pm the heat and humidity felt very much like Brisbane in summer. It was strange to see the area bleached almost white instead of its usual lush green appearance. Anyonef or a Rain Dance?

I think it was too warm for the butterflies too; apart from small and large whites, all I spotted in the butterfly conservation area was this lovely Gatekeeper (Pyronia tithonus).
