Heart of the NHS

I've had a day of rushing around. I had to go to Oswestry this morning then had a 5.00 pm appointment at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.  My blip is of a new sculpture to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the NHS. It's in the shape of a heart to reflect the love that the nation has for the NHS and was made from obsolete medical equipment by The British Ironworks at Oswestry.

I then drove home, had something to eat and was back in Oswestry for the town's consultation meeting about cutting the county's two A&E Department to one. As a large area of Mid Wales uses the two Shropshire hospitals, the journey to Telford would be horrendous if that option is chosen as opposed to the Shrewsbury option.

The presentation was given by managers and one nurse but it was full of jargon and glossing over things like the large number of staff and beds that would disappear. It's obviously a vehicle for massive cuts dressed up as "better for us".  They would not stay for the presentation by two ladies that were from a local group objecting to the proposals. The feeling of the room appeared to be 100% against the changes but I think that they will do what they want.

I saw two different sides of the NHS today.
