The Rowan Tree

Also known as the Mountain Ash, although not a member of the ash family. Rowan wood was often used to make cart wheels, boats and walking sticks. The bark can be used as a powerful dye. When mixed with sugar, the berries make nice jellies, jam and wine, although I don't think I'll try it! In mythology, the rowan tree stands as the first tree in the world from which all other plants are descended. Have one in your garden to protect you from fairy spells.
