Whole crop barley

One way to solve the problems caused by the weather this summer is to harvest cereals as silage. It's not a good substitute for grass silage, but usable as a supplement, and the cereals ripening unevenly are also not much of a problem harvested this way. The heifers' home farm is buying barley for whole crop harvest, and I decided to sell one field which seemed to have more uneven quality than most of the others.

Mowing in the main photo, harvesting with a forage wagon in the extra. The latter was taken late in the evening, after we came home from a summer theatre and I had changed a broken tyre to the car.
