We awoke to find...

...we are now cruising down the Rhine. The morning was spent passing yet more castles. This 1000 year old structure is Schonburg Castle which looks down on the town of Oberwesel. The town has so many fortifications it is known as 'the town of many towers and wines'.

We arrived at tonight's destination in time for us to take a wander around the town of Rudesheim. We decided on a cable car trip up to the monument to the re-establishment of the German Empire, constructed between 1877 and 1883. Because of the intense heat, I have been travelling light, carrying only the Panasonic compact most of the time. The camera was only returned from successful repair on Monday and has been working better than ever. Of course, on the cable car, the battery died. So the rest of the walking trip needed the use of my mobile for any photos.
