"On est champions!"

We started the day with a splash in the pool before going into Royan to watch the World Cup final.

Sitting on the grass outside a café, we could hardly see the big screen for the crowds, so ended up watching it on our phones. Due to the delay, we had to “cheer when everybody else does, then work out why later,” as Andy put it. A great atmosphere.

After the win, there was a great honking of horns, revving of engines and waving of flags. It was funny to see the crowd booing one particular motorist who’d chosen to reverse his car rather than have them rock it enthusiastically.

On the drive out of town, I couldn’t help getting into the spirit, honking the horn and high-fiving passers-by through the open window.
