Hope

The 'Beast from the East' did a lot of damage in the garden, the worst of which was a severe attack on my precious Coast Redwoods, which I grew from seed some 25 years ago. They are beginning to assume a good tapering shape with lovely red spongy bark. The Beast browned and killed around 80% of the green fronds, one of the problems with being evergreen. I couldn't see how they could recover as I thought this type of growth was always from the tips of the branches. But no! Tiny new fronds are growing from some of the branches!
I suppose if you are going to live for hundreds of years you have to be able to survive some freak weather events from time to time, so fingers crossed.
