Avocet

We set off for Preston for the weekend. The football season hasn't started yet so we had time to do something else with the day.

So we spent a few hours at Martin Mere Wildfowl and Wetland Centre en route. It's not the best time for their incoming bird population, but it's still a great place to relax and enjoy the wildlife.

At this time of the year you can walk in amongst the reeds as it's so dry, and you're not disturbing the birds.

What we discovered is that the whole of the wetlands were quite dry, due to the recent drought conditions. There were also so many moorhen families all around the site. I've added an extra of a leucistic moorhen, and one of their otters having lunch.

We did spot a visiting Little Egret too.

Our day was finished off with a lovely meal out with my other half's sister and brother-in-law.
