Gateway to Europe

I am truly lucky to have visited so many places in every continent - bar South America - and to get paid to do it. 30 countries at last count.

Funny, then, that I didn't leave the country until I was 25 and heading off to Geneva to study. The journey then consisted of train from Dumfries to London Euston. Tube across to Victoria. train to Folkestone, ferry to Calais, train to Paris, Gare du Nord, shunt round the back tracks of Paris to Gare de Lyon, couchette down to Geneva overnight. What an adventure.

Today, of course, it is all much simpler. I haven't yet tried Eurostar. But I will one day!
