Favourite fly

I'm confined to home again, this time recovering from an abdominal operation. I'm not good at doing this when the weather is wonderful and there's lots going on at the nature reserve. However, the garden (though rather dried up this summer) has lots of plants to attract insects and I've discovered that if I sit close to one of the borders I can do some macro photography from the chair! A steady stream of lovely insects come to me.

This has to be one of my favourite flies, Tachina fera - a really smart tachinid fly with hairs in all the right places and lovely frilly feet. The extra shows the orange side panelling - great bodywork!
