Summer Saturday

All over England on summer Saturdays there are village fetes. We spent the day at Cold Aston in Gloucestershire where the annual village fete is a great occasion. In the centre of the village under a huge oak tree, the band played and we sat and listened to the music, watching all the people.
The whole village works for weeks beforehand, and there were stalls selling cakes, jams and marmalades, plants, bric a brac, books and second hand clothes. There were burgers, sausages and ice cream, and the pub in the middle of the village did a good trade. There were tea and luscious home made cakes to be had in the village hall. The road through the village was closed to traffic (see extra) . We went into the church to see the flower arrangements. There was a dog show and Paul, Pauline and Normous sat on straw bales to watch (another extra).
The band played, the sun shone and it was a perfect summer day.
