Sgwarnog: In the Field

Blue

A big day out to Cleethorpes produced butterflies, football and the opportunity to explore a new seaside town.

The butterflies were mainly in the dunes at the south end of town, lots of Common Blue (like this female), Large, Small and Green-veined White, Gatekeeper, Small (and possibly Essex) Skipper, Silver-Y and Gold Spot.

Then I walked a mile or so up the prom to Blundell Park (25/92), where Grimsby Town were kicking off their season at home to Forest Green Rovers. It's another traditional ground packed in tightly among the surrounding houses, although plans for a new stadium are well progressed. The stand that I sat in is reputed to be the oldest in the Football League. The Mariners established a first half lead through a penalty but the tide turned in the second half, particularly after a freak own goal put Forest Green into the lead. It finished 1-4. I've put some photos of the ground and match on Twitter.

I've a lot of other pictures to sort through, the usual selection of plaques, ghost signs, post boxes, piers and boats, but I've put just one more in extras - a nice old illuminated platform sign from the station.
