Beachy Head

Every time I'm in Sussex, I try to do a bit more of the South Downs Way. One day I hope to do the whole walk, from Winchester to Eastbourne, 100 miles in total.

Today I did a tenth of that, starting in Alfriston and walking to the sea through the Cuckmere Valley. The river loops lazily to the sea, reaching it at the chalky cliffs of the Seven Sisters. That's seven hills to walk up and down before you reach Birling Gap, the old Belle Tout lighthouse and then the more modern one at Beachy Head.

The SDW ends one and a half miles short of Eastbourne, but it's a nice walk into town along the seafront.

My phone says I have set a new daily step record..37,948. And I'm not home yet!
