Drone strike

Forty-five minutes ago, at around 3.45pm, I was just finishing up work for the week as tomorrow is Palestinian Independence Day, an aspirational holiday at the moment. Suddenly, I heard a loud explosion very close to the office.

We grabbed our cameras and made our way to the site. A drone strike had struck the street, but did not appear to have hit anything. There was a small crater in the street where it struck. The upstairs windows of the house next to where the shell hit had been blown out and the road was scattered with broken glass.

There were crowds of people around - press, police, and curious passers-by. We could still see two Israeli drones high in the sky. At one point, everyone was told to run so we fled down the street. After the drones had passed on and we made our way back, I was able to take this shot.

At that point, the family in the house which was damaged came rushing out of the building, piled into a car and drove away at great speed. The police began to clear the area so we made our way home. I later heard that a man was injured in the attack.

There have been four Israeli strikes in the last forty-five minutes throughout the Gaza Strip, with one fatality confirmed.
