Into the woods

Just inside the trees he could see a small patch of sunlight. A lovely little glade - the air heavy and sleepy and full of the sound of insects. Once he had given way to the temptation and entered the trees, he saw a clearing created by a fallen tree. Birds wheeled overhead, flashing backwards and forwards across the tiny patch of blue sky. He followed a talkative stream that chattered its way through alternating columns of shade and sleepy sunlight. With each step from dark to light, he could feel the warmth spreading across his shoulders and even the smells changed. By the time the Sun started to drop and he could feel the first chill of evening, he realised that he was lost.

He didn’t know whether he minded or not.
