The Lincoln Highway

A quick trip to Cheyenne, WY to visit friends brought us face to face with the first automobile road across America. This road ran from San Francisco to New York and predated the more famous Route 66 (which did not run coast to coast) by more than 13 years. The Boy Scouts of America placed approximately 2,400 of the concrete monuments pictured here on September 1, 1928 to officially mark the route and dedicate it to the memory of Abraham Lincoln.
