Are Our Brains Made Of Plastic ?

From smart phones to retinal scanners. This was the question in the latest magazine for the visually impaired, which I picked up in Addenbrookes eye clinic today. I have to have regular check ups for AMD, but luckily I am reasonably OK at the moment. Apparently a new tool turns a smart phone into a retinal scanner, allowing imaging to be routinely performed without the need  for highly trained staff. The device clips over the phone and produces camera images that can be sent for analysis remotely. It has already been used to screen 100,000 children in Africa. and India. The images, usually moving, in the extras are similar to those used to help partially sighted children.
