Evening at the Vaegen harbour, Bergen

At the left of this photo is the Wharf/Bryggen which from about 1360 to 1754 housed the offices ("Kontor") of the all-powerful Hanseatic League.  Its mother city was Luebeck, on the south side of the Baltic Sea, and its staff was supplied exclusively by Germans.  

It is now classed a World Heritage site, and provides fine museums.  A delight for historians of the Europe during the Middle Ages..
