Old gig tickets - Alnwick International festival

So, it was 25 years ago today I saw an evening of international song and music in Alnwick, Northumberland. Alnick is usually a sedate, charming but undemonstrative town, but in the festival week it fills with gregarious colour, noise and activity. This was a great night. The 2 standout act for me were a Swiss acapella quartet, who did some beautiful alpine songs, but whose encore involved the 3 men holding different size earthenware mixing bowls in their palms. As they rotated the bowls one way, a coin was spun inside in the other direction to set up a ringing harmony over which the female lead sang. Magical. And the headline was Romanian Dimitru Dobrican and his troupe in folk outfits featuring an aray of bizarre carved instruments and whistles. Got the album that night!
