Trek

Set off downtown and walked across the Brooklyn Bridge in blazing sun (very busy too, but still great views and lovely to be on foot on the boardwalk seeing the city skyline unroll).
Had a little explore around the area on the shore called DUMBO (Down Under Manhattan Bridge) and mooched around the flea market and food stalls, then took the subway to Prospect Park. Just as we emerged from the station K got a flood alert on her phone and not long after the heavens opened! We sheltered under some umbrellas outside a cafe, then when it was a bit less made a dash to a mexican place for frozen margaritas and guacamole to wait til the sun came out again. It soon did, and we headed for the food fair in the park... can’t imagine how the many stall holders making and selling hot grilled and fried food coped in the heat but we couldn’t even imagine eating it and after a look round just had a sit down in the shade. This coconut seller was doing a brisk trade!
Later we walked back through the park to meet KC and get a tour and history of Park Slope.  Tea in a hipster joint, cocktails in a lesbian bar, then dinner in a fabulous Asian fusion place before jazz at Berber’s... what an evening! Lots of talk throughout, of the death of political science, co-ops and the economy, social sciences, cooking, novels, children and Brooklyn living.
Home in a cab...whacked out but buzzing!
