In his notorious report on the railways in 1963, Dr Beeching recommended the closure of some 5000 miles of railway track and over 2300 stations.

The consequences to the country's rail network still affect us, fifty years on.

In this part of Yorkshire, a vast number of mainly rural stations and lines were closed. Many of those routes are now footpaths like this one.
