Dining room Amerongen Castle

I went back for the guided tour. The theme of the tour was the arrival and stay of Kaiser Wilhelm II, after world war I. He knocked at our country's door to seek a place to live. He was granted access and the count of Amerongen was asked by the Dutch government to house him for three days. He stayed for a year and a half. Moving on to an estate in the next town which he bought. He remained there until his death.

This is the dining room of Amerongen. Up in the wall are two wooden shutters. Behind it a little room for musicians during dinner. While the Kaiser stayed here, a painting was put there, so the musicians wouldn't be able to look down on the Kaiser.

In the extras the sitting room of the Kaiser. Including the desk where he signed his abdication. The big painting on the wall is the daughter of the count, she married the aid, the lieutenant of the Kaiser.

The other extra is the library. The Kaiser would retreat there after dinner accompanied by the count and invited guests.

Before visiting the castle I had a walk in the surrounding streets. Amerongen is a very quaint town.
