Bringing boats back to Glasgow...

A great morning today with P5 from All Saints Primary in Greenock.

They came up to Glasgow with their boat, a lovely one which was stamped with images of Wyllie scul?tures. The pupils presented us with the stamps they had made, things of beauty in themselves.

They placed their boat in the Boat Shed, amongst the boats from other schools, and even brought a big safety-pin sculpture which the grandpa of one of the pupils had made, inspired by Wyllie's Monument to Maternity at Rottenrow.

The pupils of P5, All Saints have also made individual boats for the Last Launch on Hogmany, and they also brought a big bag full of them.

Between the exhibition, the video room and activities in the Learning Port, we heard all about George Wyllie from them, so obviously proud that he lived in Inverclyde.

The pupils also told us about a sculpture near their school which was created by George Wyllie. It's currently in need of repair. It has been vandalised. These youngsters, though, and their school have plans to adopt it and restore it, and their families are getting involved too.
