Commemorating

It’s VJ Day again or rather the day that many countries involved in WWII in the Asia-Pacific commemorate the end of the war there after the surrender of Japan, which came after the horror of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In Japan today is named the day for mourning the war dead and praying for peace. 73 years later that’s what we should still do, unfortunately, because there are still such a lot of people who don’t know peace .

This commemorative coin was minted in 1947 especially for the Dutch women who were detained in Japanese POW camps in Indonesia.
