Through a glass darkly...

New life for old wood

Centuries old timber beam embedded in a ceiling; still holding up the roof. It might well have come originally from a ship that, in turn, might have sailed the ocean blue - Cape Horn, the Sargasso Sea - who knows? A lot of places used ships' timbers - recycling in the 1600s. Battered with nail holes and all sorts of scars; still solid and fascinating to the touch.
