Hallmuir Ukranian POW Chapel

This was part of a POW camp used in WWII near Lockerbie. After the war a number of captured Ukranian soldiers elected either to stay here, or to be relocated here, knowing they would be shot if they returned home.

The chapel was apparently installed in this hut in 1947. Sadly now neglected and locked it’s beautiful and quite ornate inside (I could peer through the window, but it was impossible to get a usable pic).

There was a guy on site to whom I spoke who said there have been approaches made to the local authority with a view to preserving the chapel, but it’s not their remit as it’s on private land. I really hope something can be done as it’s a real gem.
