Ordinary Life

In Edinburgh at Festival time I am always struck by the contrasts between the extraordinary bustle and frantic focus of the visitors (performers and tourists alike ) which absolutely dominates the place for three weeks and which I always find fascinating and invigorating and the citizen’s everyday life that continues to take place during that time, almost in parallel (for parallel lines never meet).

This bowling club is a stone’s throw from queues of parked buses which are in the process of disgorging hoardes of Tattoo goers.

It is slightly further, but not much, from the cacophony and cheerful chaos of the Royal Mile and (in the other direction) the hectic happy hustle of Leith St and Picardy Place which is at full swing at present

But the view could be on, and of, any summer evening ( saving the backdrop) in any suburb of this or any other Scottish city.
