drove out to dungeness spit, one of the extra's, about 30 miles west from here, and the stop on our bike tour of puget sound 31 years ago that had my tom decide he could manage to leave his beloved rocky boise, climber he was still, for the watery world of the puget sound.  we were soaking wet from a night in the olympic mountains and arrived in the campground above the spit, a welcome sun shadow, or is it rain shadow?, of this wet range.  the spit is about 9 miles long now, it keeps growing, and the lighthouse is 6 miles out.  I did not make it there this go-round.

main - the kids were loving the waves

and second extra, one of us 31 years later - still standing!
