End of an Era

In the 1930s a dance-hall (later a nightclub) was built on Kirkcaldy's seafront. It was called Jackie O's. Many of the local parents and grand-parents will have fond memories of what they will always think of as Jackie O's.

In recent years it has had a few changes of owner and accompanying changes of name but the downturn in the economy and the fickle whims of the current young generation meant that it was no longer a financially viable business and it closed last year. The site has now been sold to a developer who commenced demolition this week.
As the site is cleared, flammable material is being burnt.

If the developer gets planning permission, the site will have a hotel and luxury flats on it. We'll have to wait and see - several other local hotels have closed in recent years so I can't imagine there is going to be high demand for another one.
