ancient crony

‘and at his elbow Souter Johnnie his ancient, trusty, drouthy crony’

You can’t go far in Southern Scotland without coming across Robbie Burns, or one of his mates. Found these at Souter Johnnie’s cottage in Kirkoswald, near Ayr.

Not that we had intended meeting up with this guy, but, as our ‘scenic’ route across Ayrshire and then a wander up the coast, soon became not such a good idea when the wind and rain rolled in, we headed inland. We also knew there was a good cafe at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.

Our annual pilgrimage to see Phil and Aly (Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain). The music is always virtually the same, the banter and jokes are always virtually the same, but the venue is always different, as we go out of our way to see them in a different place each year.

Today we are headed for Motherwell. All I know about Motherwell is that it is near Glasgow and has something to do with football.
