Magnolia in August

The collage shows the 4 stages of this magnolia in our garden now flowering.   In the very hot weather the green leaves shrivelled, turned brown and dropped off.   Buds started to form and then the flower.   In the collage there is a dark and a pale sort of chrysalis and I don't know what that is.
On a totally different subject I would like to ask your advise about buying a new compact camera.  Having researched several I have whittled it down to Canon Powershot sx 730 HS.   However they are bringing out a new model in September.   Does anyone know about the current 730?
