Journey Through Time

On the Kiwa Trail, Ridgefield NWR

Bill and I got out and about today and walked the Kiwa Trail at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.  The park service does manage this refuge, as they all are, and they mow the grass/hay/whatever and keep things somewhat tidy.  The trail goes from the treed area out into the open and follows that distant treeline out and back around in a big circle, into the trees and then out of the trailhead to the parking lot.  Very easy walk, except today we got a bit warm.  We did see a Great Horned Owl but my photo is not at all good as it was pretty far away.  But at least we can say we saw one.   Hard to see it in this photo maybe, but even though our smoky skies are much better, there is still forest fire smoke to be seen.  And temperatures are to get back over 90F and that will drag the smoke from the south back to our area.  We will all be glad when this is over with.  Kind of ruins summer for many people, not to mention the damage from the fires of course.
