The dropped stitch

Circles in Argyll

Had to visit Stromness for a dental appointment, so took the opportunity to look again at the exhibition by Tam MacPhail and his son Paul.

This is of a photo of a windmill sculpture made by Tam in the early '70s. As the sails turned the sharp metal point etched circles in the rock on which it stood.

My favourite part of the exhibition was sketches and some film relating to a wonderful moving sculpture which I was lucky enough to see in Tam's garden a few years back. Again slightly windmill - like, both the top and bottom sections rotate and also the whole structure turns. The movements are slow and smooth and mesmerising. Oh how I would love one of these in my garden!
