A day off

Sue came back to Portland after a week with her siblings. We had a quiet day, telling each other stories of our time apart, reading together, watching Sue Perkins on the Ganges, staying mostly indoors, trying not to breathe deeply on our short trips outside. The Air Quality Index continues in the Unhealthy range. Smoke from forest fires makes the sky yellowish-brown, makes us both cough. The whole world around us smells like stale smoke.

Passing this public art installation, I thought at first someone had broken the windows. Then I saw the plaque.
