Ghost town

As the onslaught on Gaza continues, we didn't move around much today, so I was limited in what I could photograph.

Unfortunately, my camera does not work well enough in the dark to capture the billowing clouds of smoke rising up into the sky from the countless sites of F16 and drone attacks across the Gaza Strip.

This is one of the busiest roads in Gaza City, lined with wedding halls and often bumper-to-bumper with traffic, as long as fuel is available.

Today, it was almost deserted. Most people have taken shelter in their homes, although even there they are not safe from attack. There is no safe haven for people here. No bomb shelters, no air raid sirens, no warnings of when they might be hit.

The bombardments have continued across the Gaza Strip throughout the day, and the numbers of those killed and injured is rising constantly. As of 2pm this afternoon, Gaza time, there were 19 confirmed casualties, 10 of those civilians, 6 of them children. Of 257 confirmed injured, 253 were civilians. This clearly demonstrates that it is the people of Gaza who are bearing the brunt of these disproportionate and indiscriminate attacks by Israel.

Some of the sites that were targeted last night included a water well, an Orthodox church, and the Civil Department of the Ministry of Interior, which was completely destroyed. We wanted to take a photograph of the site but were advised that it was too dangerous to travel there.

We are facing into another long night of heavy bombing from the F16s and drones that are continually flying overhead, and reports are that a ground invasion is imminent. Sleep seems a distant memory.
