Cressing Barns

Mum and dad have a bucket list of Tiptree jam tearooms that they want to lunch in. They have ticked off Finchingfield and todays jaunt out in the country was to Cressing Temple Barns near Witham.

After a brilliant ploughmans lunch in the tearoom we had a mooch round the massive Grade 1 13th Century barns. There were wedding preparations in the Barley and Wheat barns but we managed to take a quick look inside (extra pic). At the back of the Wheat Barn was a tiny museum showing the history of the Barns and what life was like for the Knights Templar who kept them. I spotted some life-like Saxon mannequins and made a sharp exit as they creep me out but what an amazing place for a wedding!

Bought a plant from the Tudor Walled Garden as we left and flipped our £2.50 in the honesty box.

We felt like we had stepped into an episode of Rosemary & Thyme …
