Haddington 700 celebrations Medieval Day

Unlike last weekend's rainy event with the Royal Company of Archers, it was a pleasure to cover this event in the sunshine. There was lots going on from Medieval games, to Knights in armour, a parade, and a tented fair with bands on stage, funfair, activities and refreshments in East Haugh. Lots of photos taken.

This is the Provost of East Lothian, John McMillan, resplendent in his ermine robe, with another gent dressed, I think, as a herald bringing the charter to Haddington.  In 1318, 700 years ago, Haddington was granted a charter by Robert the Bruce to allow it to hold a market and collect customs. The charter is in the East Lothian archives and is the oldest document they have.
