Calf

This little statue sits outside what was at one time the Glasgow Meat Market and abattoir.   It covered a massive area and now consists of some derliect land and some parts like here where flats have been built but they have retained the original facade.

Its in bronze with a limestone base.

The original concept was to have it on a tall plynth with a biblical iconic reference to the golden calf in the Old Testament. However there were some objections to the idolatry nature of it and the decision was made to take it down from its column and have a garland round its neck.as a tribute to its beauty as a living creature  -  and presumbaly not a creature on its way to the abattoir!

I described it as a 'little' statue but its marginally larger than life size.
