Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

No witches here!

Getting on for half a century ago our first Talpid was born in Fiji. When the stump of her umbilical cord fell off we followed the local tradition of planting it in our garden under a sprouting coconut. This to ensure that the child will always know where her roots lie.

When her brother Talpid was born in Scotland we continued the custom by planting his under a Rowan (Mountain Ash) sapling. Using a Rowan also ensures that the house will be safe from witches!
