Black darters in a clinch

F and I had planned on a walk on Whixall Moss today when I found out that there was a guided walk led by an expert naturalist. Naturally we went on the guided walk.

We saw lots of different things including this pair of mating Black Darter dragonflies that had a private moment observed by a group of walkers. We also saw Migrant Hawker dragonflies, a peregrine falcon, two kestrels and several Great Raft Spiders which grow large enough to take small fish. (Extra photo). This one had more growing to do as it was nowhere near the 5" that they can reach.
