A walk on the commons

We were out with the local walking group this morning and were surprised to find a very large number of members turn up.  It seems yesterdays good weather had encouraged some new members and some old ones to join the 'usual' group.   It was a local walk over several of the commons and we were delighted to see the yellows of the gorse and the purple pinks of the heathers coming into flower.  In total three different varieties of heather were identified.  I missed the best colourful shots as these were at the start of the walk and I couldn't really hang back at that point, not when there were 29 of us.  We walked at an enjoyable pace over the commons, along some lanes and through the woods.  The cloud started to dissipate and it became quite a warm still day.

Fortunately the walk wasn't that long and we returned home for lunch before heading out to a friends 70th BBQ party.

Forgot to say that the abstract Thursday image was indeed a water mains cover as guessed by all.
