I was curious as to why this grasshopper did not hop. I think it may be an immature one. It seems that grasshoppers are one of the insects that have 'incomplete metamorphosis' meaning they do not have a larval stage and do not pupate. Or as someone put it "egg, nymph, adult, making whoopie, more eggs"

(However if I'm wrong I am happy to be corrected)

Edit: As I suspected I was wrong. See Mollyblobs' comment below for the sad reality.
