Was It Really So Long Ago

Its a Start, but Unnecessarily So

Here is the start to the extension, the first step before work begins in anger, just over a week from now. This room on the side of the house, was built under the watchful eye of the council's building control department, about 5 years ago. It sits behind the garage, built about 10 years ago and was similarly controlled by the buildings section of the council.

Notwithstanding the fact that regular inspections to the foundations of both the garage and the room behind it had been carried out, by the building controller visiting in person, paperwork being signed off at all the key stages, the very same department has insisted that before work begins to build the first floor, a hole must be dug, just to check them again.

I'm not sure what we're supposed to have done with them, since they were last inspected. Does the council think we decided to dig them up, fill them in and replace the concrete with jelly?

It's a minor inconvenience and not worth fighting over. Needless to say, I'm extremely relieved to see the concrete is still there and at the same depth originally laid. The council seemed to agree, so it all begins in just over a week!!

Otherwise, the day got off to a fine start
