A Shower Goes Through

It's been a sedentary day, too breezy and chilly for outdoory things.  I've enjoyed the coverage of the Great North Run broadcast from a much sunnier north-east.  There wasn't much chance of seeing Hobbler Nichola, running on behalf of Cancer Research, in amongst the 57 000 runners, but we were there with her in spirit.  The theme this year has been local heroes and, amongst the many worthy causes and selfless volunteering, there were several women talking about how discovering running had helped them through difficult times.  On a recent hobble it was shocking, but not surprising, to learn how many of us have been touched by cancer in our families.  Somehow, running together helps.

Book:  The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
Hmmm not so sure about this one.  Four young siblings learn the dates they will die from a Roma woman, the book following their adult lives and how they choose to deal with/face the knowledge.  Themes of family and grief, excess and fate.  I enjoyed its originality and felt it was sustained to the end, but was left needing some fun from my next read!
