What a fantastic bird

The Hoopoe , not a bird I had expected to see in the Highlands of Scotland so little off course as it heads back to Africa after it’s stay in Continental Europe.
What a great bird , very elegant and smart with it’s buff plumage and black and white feathers. It reminded me of a woodpecker especially the way it was pecking the ground and remained stationary if anything came close.
We did not want to disturb it much so took a few photos and left it as it flew into nearby trees.
We had a lovely walk in a damp Cromarty, beautiful light as the sun shone through the mist and rain.Drying up eventually with fine views of the rigs lit up with their tops still covered in mist. Two porpoise manoeuvred through the tug boats and the huge bits of ‘ concrete ?’ for Aberdeen’s Harbour. Quite a sight as tgevoieces are massive !
Tea and toast made a tasty breakfast at the Slaughter House.
Dolphins spotted at Rosemarkie too.
Home to pick up David and on to Richard and Ronnies flat.Ronnie was working so the boys have a day of binge watching and pizza planned. It will feel strange to have an empty house !
We drove down to a Loch which Richard and Ronnie had found yesterday, fantastic views all round even through the downpours ;)
