Punting on the Great Stour, Westgate, Canterbury.

A calamitous end to the day when we discovered a melon had liquified from the inside and leaked gooey foul smelling liquid all over the chopping boards, wicker basket, cork mats etc. We only bought the offending item on Wednesday so it must have been going bad then. We wondered why there were so many fruit flies around.

Apart for that it was a glorious day. We tramped 6 miles around Canterbury partly on a wild goose chase looking for walking apparel and furniture. Neither was successful. The furniture store had closed which was most disappointing.

The other reason for visiting the city was to explore the streets, gardens and waterways within the city walls. We’ve been to Canterbury many times but not really taken time out to wander around the streets. And a very good walk it was too, taking us along a portion of the city walls as well as along the Great Stour River.

Today’s blip is of that river from Westgate. A new attraction has developed since we last walked this way. Punting on the river has, all of a sudden it seems, become very popular. There was even on punt where you lay down as if in a bed as the punter punted you along.
